Final Fantasy XIV Set To Relaunch As FFXV? Report

[Original post by Tom Hopkins]

Final Fantasy XIV is set for big things ahead of it’s PS3 release Square Enix assures us, and a good thing too, as the PC version of the MMO received a variety of criticism from gamers upon it’s original release.

Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 is set to hit Gamescom next month, with all the new features hopefully setting the MMO back on track – but a recent trademark listing suggests something could be afoot with FFXIV’s relaunch.

Final Fantasy XV was recently trademarked by Square Enix in the US, and yet the trademark listing carries the same (ambiguous) logo as featured in the bottom left corner of recent FFXIV screens (below, click to enlarge).

Could Final Fantasy XV actually be a new name for the upcoming re-launch Final Fantasy XIV 2.0? Or has the wrong logo/trademark been listed in the US? If the latter, it would be the first time we’ve seen a mistake on the trademark site.

Alternatively, Final Fantasy XV could be a separate game headed for a reveal at TGS, according to a report by GamesMaster, which claims the RPG has been in development for four years, with a development team of around 200 people under the direction of FFXII’s Hiroyuki Ito.

Hiroshi Minagawa, lead UI designer on FFXIV 2.0 is said to be co-director for FFXV.

Final Fantasy XV is also likened to elements of Assassin’s Creed, Vagrant Story, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.

FinalFantasyXV.com has been registered by Square Enix UK for some time – they declined to comment when contacted by NowGamer.
